Mothers Day Madness

This week Im working on Mother's day gifts for my mom and mother in law. I bought some medium sized tan canvas bags from Hobby Lobby to place their gifts in. But I decided they needed a little sprucing up. I decided to use my favorite tool (my Silhouette Cameo) to create a vinyl stencil that would be placed on the bag to create an outline for painting. I took some step by step photos...hope you enjoy!!

This is the image from the Silhouette Studio. I downloaded the frame and added the letter M.

I used vinyl because it was much stickier than contact paper, the only downfall is that it wastes alot of vinyl, so make sure you do not use the expensive stuff.

 

Then you peel away all of the spaces you want to paint in your design. After removing the parts you want painted, you have a nice looking stencil. Now very carefully you need to cover the image with transfer tape and slowly peel it off of the backing.

Next, you place the image onto your bag and slowly remove the transfer tape to make sure that the image transfers without bubbling or peeling up.

Now feel free to paint the image any color you would like. I used acrylic craft paint and it worked great. Make sure you allow the paint plenty of time to dry before removing the vinyl!
